Heat Angles are referred to by many different names: Heat Plates, Heat Angles, Flame Tamers, Heat Shields, more. They help distribute heat across the grilling surface as well as catch grease drippings. Heat angles can be shaped like an upside down "V", a waffle design or like flat piece of metal. Keeping these in good working condition is essential for optimal grill performance. You do not want to grill directly over your burners as it may cause damage and rapid destruction. 

Periodically remove your heat shields and remove excess grease and carbon build up with a stainless scrubber. This will alleviate flare-ups as well as extending the life of your tents.
