How Many Briquette Trays Do I Need?
Alfresco grills require multiple briquette tray assemblies to cover the full cooking surface. Refer to your grill size and burner configuration below:
| Grill Model Size | Standard Models (All U-Burners) | Sear Zone™ Models (1 Infrared Burner) |
|---|---|---|
| 30" Models | Requires 2 Trays | Requires 1 Tray |
| 42" Models | Requires 3 Trays | Requires 2 Trays |
| 56" Models | Requires 3 Trays | Requires 2 Trays |
Pro Tip: If your grill has a Sear Zone™ (the rectangular infrared burner on the left), that section does not use a briquette tray. Only the traditional stainless U-burners require this assembly.

Why Replace Your Briquette Assembly?
Briquette trays operate directly above the burners and below falling grease, placing them in the highest stress zone of your grill. Over time, heat exposure and flare-ups cause warping, corrosion, and burn-through.
A compromised tray leads to uneven cooking, hot spots, and unnecessary strain on burners. Replacing the full assembly restores balanced heat dispersion and helps extend the life of your grill.
Maintenance Tip: Periodically brushing off accumulated ash and debris can help extend the life of the 304 stainless steel tray and maintain consistent heat performance.
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I replace my briquette tray?
Replace your briquette tray when it shows signs of structural deterioration such as rust-through, warping, cracking, or burn holes. Once the metal is compromised, it can no longer distribute heat evenly, resulting in hot spots and inconsistent cooking performance.
Is OEM better than aftermarket?
For briquette trays specifically, a high-quality aftermarket assembly like this one provides the same material grade and heat resistance as OEM. Because trays are a high-wear, consumable component, choosing premium aftermarket construction is often the most cost-effective way to maintain performance.
Why do briquette trays wear out?
Briquette trays operate in the most aggressive heat zone of your grill. They catch grease drippings while sitting directly above high-BTU burners. Repeated flare-ups and heat cycling eventually cause metal fatigue, corrosion, and burn-through. Our 304 stainless steel is engineered to withstand this environment longer than lower-grade replacements.
